About the placement:
Our Physiotherapy placement in South Africa is located at a high-performance sports centre in Stellenbosch, offering students a unique opportunity to work with elite athletes and experience Sports Physiotherapy in a professional environment. Situated in a world-class facility, you will gain hands-on experience in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. You will also have the chance to observe cutting-edge techniques used in athlete recovery and learn from experienced sports physiotherapists as well as working alongside strength and conditioning coaches, sports analysts, nutritionists and sports doctors to help with integrating a rehab plan into an athletes training plan and provide a holistic approach to their recovery. This placement will equip you with valuable skills, confidence, and knowledge in managing high-performance athletes, preparing you for your future career in sports physiotherapy.
Who you’ll treat:
The high-performance centre treats a variety of people from private paying clients to contracted sports teams. The majority of your placement will be based with 1 or 2 high performance sports teams (most likely rugby and football), depending on the time of year that you come.

For adventure enthusiasts, South Africa offers thrilling activities like skydiving and zip-lining through breathtaking nature reserves to exploring Franschhoek, renowned as the food and wine capital of the country. A placement in South Africa provides the perfect opportunity to embrace its natural beauty and vibrant culture.
What’s included?
We will support you from the moment you enquire with us until well after your placement ends. This includes advice and guidance about visas, insurance and vaccines and pre-departure orientation about South Africa, including health and safety. When you sign up to one of our placements, you’ll get access to our exclusive tailor made training resources led by world class physios including premier league physios, which you will have access to forever. By doing placements with us, we can help to excel your career in Sports Physiotherapy by building your network of peers and we will continue to support you even after your placement has finished. We can also help you with applying for funding and grants to help with funding your placements.
As part of your placement, we will arrange safe and secure accommodation. Your accommodation will most likely be in a shared apartment or house with other Sports World Electives students, fostering a collaborative and supportive living environment. Accommodations are located near the placement site and include essential amenities like Wi-Fi and shared kitchen facilities. Local amenities include grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants, as well as access to public transport. Stellenbosch is a University town, offering a welcoming student community with plenty of spaces for study, relaxation, and exploring.
This placement includes optional 3 meals per day on placement days. Please ensure you make us aware of any dietary requirements so we ensure this can be accommodated. You are welcome to opt-out of this if you prefer.
Prices and dates
Prices from £1995 for 4 week placements.
Dates: Placements start on Mondays from 2nd July 2025 and runs for a minimum of 4 weeks. However, we highly recommend an 8-week placement to fully immerse yourself and gain the most benefit from supporting players through their injury management and recovery process. Accommodation will be available from the Saturday before your placement starts.
There are also options for long-term placements of up to 8 months where you would benefit from working with sports teams from pre-season right through to the end of the season. Please enquire to discuss this in more detail.
